A brake pedal (3) pivots about a bushing (19) and is restrained by a blade spring (2) which is attached to the chassis (5,6) at one end and to the pedal (11,12) at the other. The blade spring passes over a curved stop (14) leaving a wedge shaped clearance (15) such that pedal movement becomes progressively stiffer. Force and rotation sensors are fitted (20,18) to detect and control brake operation
