The wider tube section (40) is inserted in the circuit between condenser and valve. All the refrigerant, in liquid phase, passes (F) through the contained cartridge (80, 82), traversing first the dehydrating (78), then the filtering (74) section - opt., in some variants, in the reverse order. The wide section is smoothly reduced at one end (54) to merge with ongoing circuit tubing of the usual diameter; at the other end a threaded coupling ring connects it with a similar transition section merging with the circuit tubing arriving from the condenser. The cartridge comprises a filter (74), configured as a reentrant tube located by a connecting annulus (80) within an external sleeve (82) which, a sliding fit in the widened circuit tube (52), is retained by a sealing ring (76) at the coupling end. The dehydrating material (78), contained in a sachet, is packed inside the filter tube and receives the incoming refrigerant prior to filtration. In variants, the filter tube receives the flow internally before it passes to externally located dehydrating material.
