The actuator includes a solenoid winding which is divided into at least two sub-windings. The latter are normally connected in parallel. When one winding fails, the other winding is used alone. The two windings may be driven in parallel for moving the armature and in series for holding it in its final position. E- An Independent claim is given for an electromagnetic actuator with two electromagnets.
