A process for making a lithographic sheet material comprises maintaining an adhesive layer, coated on to a substrate comprising a metal sheet, at temperature(s) within /! 15 deg F of its melting point. A particle layer is then adhered to the adhesive layer maintained at the temperature(s). The adhesive layer comprises a thermoplastic polymer having a lower melting point than the metal sheet. The particle layer comprises particles of alumina, silica, zinc- or titanium oxide, magnesia, aluminium or zinc. The particles have an average particle size of less than 30 mu m and less than the thickness of the adhesive layer.
