<p>A projection image display comprising a color separating means for separating light from a light source unit (101) into red, blue, and green, modulating means for modulating the separated colors, and a projection optical system (114) for projecting the modulated light beams onto a screen (15) to form a magnified image thereon. The color separating means has a dichroic mirror (105) which transmits blue light and reflects green light, the blue modulating means (109) utilizes the P-polarization component of the transmitted blue, and the green modulating means (119) utilizes the S-polarisation component of the reflected green. A three-plate projection image display which does not cause any color misregistration due to the difference of angles of incidence on the dichroic mirror and has a light utilization efficiency which does not deteriorates.</p> |
