<p>A priming composition suitable for making percussion caps which meet military standards, including stability and sensitivity, and which may comprise no toxic heavy metals, comprises 21 % to 52 % by weight of an explosive composition, the explosive composition comprising at least 85 % potassium dinitrobenzofuroxan (KDNBF) as a main energetic ingredient; and no more than 15 % tetrazene as a sensitizer, 48 % to 70 % by weight of anhydrous strontium nitrate and/or potassium nitrate as an oxidant; and optionally up to 15 % by weight of a fuel such as calcium silicide. The composition may be made by dry mixing of the components.</p> |
