The gauge has a rigid angle body formed with a two shanks which are joined at a vertex. An arm is mounted on one of the shanks, near the vertex, and is pivotal between a compact position, where the arm lies along the shank and a working position it extends from the vertex. The arm and its connected shank engage spaced apart locations on a tree trunk. An arcuate scale (15) on an inner side of the shank with the arm mounted on it convexly faces towards an end of the other shank remote from the vertex. A needle is positionable in line with a side of the tree trunk and indicates a diameter of the tree trunk on the scale. An attachment is connectable with the body and is dimensioned to contact tree trunks of larger trees while enabling the indicator to indicate their diameters upon application of a multiplication factor.
