Navigation system control unit for route control

The unit has a main CPU (20) to control the navigation system operation processes, and an appraisal program (24) to monitor the navigation system operating process. A number of simultaneously working arithmetic logic units (ALU) are included, to execute a route computing program. The CPU controls a media processor in response to the operating process condition, such that this computes a route and then uses this to control the route. The media processor is a processor which has at least one VLIW structure (very long instruction word) or a SIMD structure (single instruction multi-data).
