Electrofilter operation in IC engine

The method involves using a precipitator electrode and a discharge electrode. The output power of the high voltage generator is controlled in open or closed loop fashion according to the required cleanliness on the cleaned, or output side. A crankcase breather for the IC engine has a ventilation pipe in which is such an electrofilter acting as an oil separator and the cleanliness factor refers to the sludge on the cleaned side. There is a sensor (4) to measure this factor. There is another sensor on the dirty, or input, side of the filter. The high voltage generator also runs as a function of engine speed and temperature.
