The present invention pertains to a steering wheel assembly (10) that incorporates the control mechanism (52) for at least one machine function on the steering wheel (12). The control mechanism (52) is positioned on a control lever (42) that is mounted on the steering wheel (12) for relative rotation with respect thereto. The control lever (42) may be maintained at a preselected orientation throughout the entire range of movement of the steering wheel (12).
