The flip-top cigarette package is structured so that, when the pack is opened, there is a visible field (45) which can carry a printed message such as a health warning. The message is printed by laser printing which removes material from the surface of the field. The printed field (45) is at the visible section of the projecting inner wrapping (28) when the package lid is opened. Independent claims are included for a method of manufacturing the cigarette package and a machine to carry out this production.
