This invention provides waterborne polymer compositions stabilized against gelling due to the addition of poly(alkyleneimine) by post addition of certain anionic surfactants. The waterborne polymer compositions of the invention are useful in a variety of coating formulations such as, for example, paints, inks, sealants, textile backcoatings, adhesives and the like. Methods of making stable waterborne polymer compositions are also disclosed.
