New card reader applicable to access control, comprising a reader (1) configured by a prismatic body (2) and which is built as a parallelepiped presenting on one of its major faces a rectangular plate (3) provided with perforations (7) situated at the proximity of its extremities, and having a groove (4) for the introduction of magnetic tape cards or as a passage reader if chip cards are used; the reader has lights (5 and 6) which are red and green respectively and which inform on the possibility or refusal to access a desired location; master cards (10) can be used in order to enable one or various user cards (10'); the invention permits the use of conventional credit or banking cards, or cards specific to the system; optionally, the reader (1) can incorporate a clock for activity programmation purposes.
