Process for the preparation of a peptide mix

Process for producing a peptide mixture comprises synthesising peptides from amino acid derivatives on a solid phase and then cleaving the peptides from the solid phase. A mixture of derivatives of different amino acids is used for the coupling reaction in ≥ 1 amino acid position. After each coupling step in which a mixture of derivatives of different amino acids is used, peptide sequences to which no amino acid was coupled in that step are selectively end-capped. Also claimed are: (1) a peptide mixture comprising peptides that are variants of an immunologically reactive epitopic region, each having ≥ 1 labelling, activating or immobilising group at selectively targetted positions, and (2) a poly-hapten composition produced by coupling the peptide mixture to a support.
