A motor vehicle folding seat assembly and securing means therefor

A folding seat assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed in which a foldable backrest portion 20 of the seat assembly is secured to part of the floor structure of the vehicle by a releasable securing mechanism 10 to enable it to be easily installed or removed. The releasable securing mechanism 10 comprises of two spaced apart plate like members 11 interposed between which there is a pawl like retainer member 12 used to retain a pivot pin attached to part of the backrest portion of the seat assembly within a slot formed in the plate like member 11. To prevent the pawl 12 from moving to a position where the pivot pin 16 could become disengaged from the slot 17 a locking means is provided in the form of a bolt 13 which is screwed into engagement with one end 19 of the pawl 12. <IMAGE>
