PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound that is useful as an intermediate for solvents, surfactants, monomers, medicines and agrochemicals by allowing a dicarboxylic divinyl ester to react with an aldehyde in the presence of a metal catalyst. SOLUTION: In the presence of a metal catalyst such as an element in group 2A or a transition metal element in the periodic table, preferably in an amount of 0.05-0.2 mol, 1 mole of a dicarboxylic divinyl ester of formula I (A is a divalent organic group; R<1> -R<3> are each H, a 1-5 alkyl) is allowed to react with 1.5-15 moles of an aldehyde of formula II (R<4> and R<5> are each a non reactive atom, a on-reactive tetrachloride at 10-40 deg.C to prepare a glycol ester derivative of formula III ((m) is 0, 1; (n) is 1, 2; R is a group represented by formula IV or formula V). After completion of the reaction, the product is separated and purified by filtration, concentration, extraction, crystallization, recrystallization, column chromatography and the like. |
