PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perfectly and safely execute the non-polluting of hazardous ethylene oxide-contg. waste gases with a device reduced in its size by providing the waste gas treating device with a mixer which mixes and dilutes the waste gases subjected to sterilization with air and a catalytic combustion reaction vessel which makes the resulted gaseous mixture composed of the ethylene oxide/air non-polluting. SOLUTION: In the case the gaseous ethylene oxide sterilizing device with the waste gas treating device is actually operated, a sterilizing vessel 1 is first hermetically closed and the gaseous mixture composed of, for example, 95% ethylene oxide + 5% carbon dioxide is gasified and is packed in this vessel. The heating of the catalytic reaction vessel 4 is then started and temp. control is executed at around 150 to 200 deg.C after the start of the sterilization. A vacuum pump 5 is operated after the end of the sterilization and the sterilized waste gases are heated by a heat exchanger 3 and are introduced into the mixer 2. The air (outdoor air) is sucked and is heated by the heat exchanger 3 and is then introduced into the mixer 2. The gaseous mixture composed of the ethylene oxide/air mixed in the mixer 2 is introduced through the heat exchanger 3 into the catalytic combustion reaction vessel 4 where the gaseous mixture is subjected to perfect combustion. |
