PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a porous material having a low density and a small shrinkage by firing a resin foam containing bitumens in a nonoxidative atmosphere. SOLUTION: A thermoset resin precursor such as a polyurethane resin precursor comprising an addition product of a polyetherpolyol and a polyisocyanate, a foaming agent and bitumens are mixed so as to be a quantitative homogeneous state at each position, or a slurry state, and heated to provide a resin foam containing the bitumens, comprising 70-90 wt.% bitumens and 10-30 wt.% resin foam. The resin foam containing the bitumens is also formed by mixing a thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene, the foaming agent and the bitumens to provide the quantitative homogeneous state at each position, or a slurry state, and carrying out a melt-extruding or the like of the mixture. The resin foam is fired under a reduced pressure or in a nonoxidative gas atmosphere at >=500 deg.C, preferably at 800-1,500 deg.C to provide a carbon pore body in the method for producing the carbon pore body. The pore body has 0.01-0.8 g/cm<3> density, 3,000-30,000 g/mm<2> flexural strength, 10,000-50,000 g/mm<2> compression strength and 0.001-0.10 Ω.cm volume resistivity value. |
