PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To completely eliminate the ink thickened and adhered on the surface where the discharging opening is formed, for maintaining the quality equivalent to the level before storage by providing a recording head recovery control for conducting a preliminary discharge for a long time when a recording head stored for a long period is mounted. SOLUTION: A recovery device 8 conducts the recovery operation by discharging an ink from the discharging opening of a recording head 1 by suctioning, compressing, or the like, of the ink. When the recovery operation is started, the time from the point when the recovery operation was conducted last time is confirmed by the recording head 1 replaced and mounted. If printing has not been conducted a few hours ago, only a preliminary discharge for preventing color mixture is to be conducted. If printing has not been conducted for a few days, the ink thickened and adhered is suctioned and a preliminary discharge is conducted. In the case of a long period storage, for example, suctioning is conducted for twice consecutively and a preliminary discharge is conducted for about 50 times as much as an ordinary case as another recovery method different from the case of a short period storage. When the recording head 1 is mounted after a long period storage, the reliability of the recovery operation can be improved so as to realize a stable discharge. |
