PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp the service situation certainly for properly operating a seat occupant protecting device for front passenger's seat of a car. SOLUTION: Spot light 20 is cast to a front passenger's seat 10 and a plurality of points around front passenger's seat 10 and is caught by a camera 18, and a distance measurement is performed on the basis of the spot light 20 irradiating positions (distance calculating part 42). From the image information captured by the camera 18, the features are sensed for each situation of seat in service such as the contour of the seat, shape of the contour of a child seat 12, etc., (contour extracting part 36). On the basis of the features for each situation and the distance information determined by the distance measurement, judgement about the seat service situation is passed (service situation judging part 60). On the basis of the judgment passed, operational control is made for occupant protecting device such as an air bag device 28 (operation control part 62). |
