PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constantly control tension at all times by promptly measuring the tension applied to the wire of a wire saw. SOLUTION: A wire saw 10 is provided with a magnetic permeability detecting circuit 72 and a sensing analyzer 74. The magnetic permeability detecting circuit 72 detects the magnetic permeability of a traveling wire 14. The sensing analyzer 74 calculates the tension of the wire 14 based on the magnetic permeability detected by the detecting circuit 72. A tension controller in a traverse device 16 is controlled so that the calculated tension may be a prescribed value. |
