This invention relates to a lamp temperature measuring apparatus for measuring the temperature or heat at locations near a lamp. The apparatus comprises a first plurality of discrete heat detectors arranged substantially in a line substantially parallel to the axis of symmetry of the lamp and a second plurality of discrete heat detectors arranged substantially in a line transverse to and intersecting the axis of symmetry of the lamp. The locations of the pluralities of heat detectors are moveable and adjustable in order to measure the temperature of lamps of various sizes and irregular shapes.
