CARBON PARTICLES FOR FIXING GASEOUS CARBON DIOXIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbon particles for fixing gaseous carbon dioxide that selectively adsorb gaseous CO2 and can separate or remove gaseous CO2 from the air or other gases such as waste combustion gases from an incinerator. SOLUTION: Spherical carbon particles are treated with oxygen plasma to obtain the objective carbon particles that selectively adsorb gaseous CO2 . The spherical carbon particles are preferably obtd. by carbonizing phenolic resin particles that make <=100 μm average particle diameter after carbonization by firing in an inert gaseous atmosphere or by carbonizing synthetic resin particles by firing at 800-1,200 deg.C max. temp. in an inert gaseous atmosphere.
