PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a harmful exhaust gas treating device capable of discharging a harmful exhaust gas (particularly ethylene oxide gas discharged from an ethylene oxide sterilizer) in a completely intoxicated state and miniaturizing its self. SOLUTION: In the harmful exhaust gas treating device composed of a harmful gas adsorption and desorption vessel 1 and a catalytic combustion reaction vessel 4, the harmful exhaust gas is directly introduced into the adsorption and desorption vessel 1 to adsorb the high concentration harmful gas on an adsorbent in the adsorption and desorption vessel 1 and on the other hand, a previously heated air is introduced into the adsorption and desorption to gradually desorb the harmful gas adsorbed on the adsorbent 1 to form a harmful gas/air gaseous mixture containing the harmful gas in a preferable concentration and the resultant gaseous mixture is introduced into the catalytic combustion reaction vessel 4 to be completely combusted.
