PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a thickness of plate from the forefront end of a coil so as to be a target value by preventing a reverse off-gauge generated in a rear stand through AGC of a front stage being ON. SOLUTION: Making use of a rolling results when a fore end of a succeeding material passes through a No.i stand and a plate thickness results of the fore end of the succeeding material detected by a plate thickness meter at the outlet of No.i stand, a set value of an amount of flying change from a No. (i+1) stand onward is corrected, and at the same time a plate thickness results of the No.i stand outlet side from the fore end of the succeeding material is subjected to tracking to the No.(i+1) stand. Then, a rolling velocity Vi of the No.i stand is controlled so as to make a mass flow from the fore end of the succeeding material on the No.(i+1) stand inlet side constant.
