PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely and stably produce the subject chloride in high yield and short time while producing little by-product by using a hexasubstituted guanidinium salt catalyst and reacting the corresponding alcohol with phosgene or thionyl chloride. SOLUTION: The objective chloride is produced by reacting (A) a corresponding mono or polyalcohol e.g. a compound of formula III [R<1> and R<2> are each H, a (substituted) (branched chain) (un) saturated 1-30C aliphatic group, etc.] }with (B) phosgene or thionyl chloride in the presence of (C) a catalyst consisting of a compound of formula I [R<3> to R<8> are each a (substituted) (branched chain) 1-12C alkyl or a (substituted) 1-6C alicyclic group; A is Cl, Br, HCl2 or HBr2 ] or a compound of formula II (R'<3> is a 2-10C alkylene). |
