The sound damping (2) and sealing (3) sections of the component are made in one piece from a molded closed-pore foam material able to carry out both functions. The component, designed to be fitted to an air duct (1), has a sealing section in contact with the upper end (9) of the air duct and a sound-damping section (2) surrounding the duct's side walls (10). It is made in one piece with an aperture in the sealing section which lies coaxially with the apertures in the sound-damping section and the air duct, and is fixed in place by cut-out blocks (6a) preferably parallelepiped in shape and fitting into matching recesses in the duct's side walls.
