<p>The invention provides a direct current (DC) electric motor (1) including a rotor disc (10) capable of rotation about its main axis (12) and with a plurality of permanent magnets (7) positioned around the axis (12) of rotation of the rotor (10) on a face of the rotor such that magnetic poles of the magnets are parallel to the axis (12) of rotation of the rotor. The motor further includes a stator having a plurality of stator coils (8) capable of producing magnetic fields with north-south orientation substantially parallel to the axis (12) of rotation of the rotor. The rotor is mounted rotatably with respect to the stator and a control means switches the magnetic field of the stator coils (8) such that, in use, the rotor is caused to rotate about its axis (12).</p> |
