According to the invention, a ramming machine for compacting soil, or a hammer has a crank mechanism (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 16) for producing a directed vibration, said crank mechanism being coupled with a spring assembly (11). The parts of the crank mechanism which move back and forth linearly are made from a material with a density less than that of steel. This prevents vibrations which are unpleasant for the person operating the working machine from occurring.
