The control system is for one or more looms (2-4), each with drives (9-11) with rotary speed control. A central memory (15) contains data on the yarns being woven. At least one computer (16) calculates the maximum permissible working speeds of the looms and/or the maximum permissible rotary speeds of the loom drives. The separate controls (6-8), at each loom, set the loom working speeds or the loom drive speeds according to signals from the computer. A single memory services one or more looms, with a direct access to it for all the looms or their loom controls, or access to the central computer through the memory. The loom controls have a frequency converter to set the loom drive speeds. The data contains information specific to the yarns being woven, to give maximum speeds in relation to the widths of the woven fabrics. The central computer transmits signals to the looms containing maximum speed limits. At least some of the looms each have a separate computer, taking yarn related data from the central memory, to set the loom drive speeds according to the yarn type and weaving width. The loom working speed is reduced to the limit for the yarn data, when the yarn data demands a slower speed than the normal loom working. The yarn data also contain parameters such as the required time run of the braking forces at the yarn brakes, or loom speeds for part pattern repeats. Where the woven fabric has wefts of different yarns, with different yarn data, the loom speed is switched to a higher rate as soon as a direct sequence of a number of wefts have been inserted using a weft material which permits a higher working speed, and preferably after more than 20 weft insertions. |
