The present invention reveals an automatic sorting device capable of receiving articles from an input source, correctly choosing which of many output destinations to direct the articles, and transferring those articles without slowing the existing automated system. To accomplish its purpose, the device comprises: a sorting conveyor pivoted at its receiving end about a horizontal and vertical axis; a vertically moveable carriage, mounted within a horizontally moveable frame, that cradles the sorting conveyor between its receiving and output ends; tracks which support and guide the frame as it transverses side to side in front of an array of output destinations; and a controller capable of positioning the frame and carriage so the sorting conveyor output end is mated to the array conveyor receiving end identified as the article's output destination.
