A dispersion-compensated optical fiber compensating wavelength dispersion and dispersion slope of a positively dispersed slope optical fiber such as TRUE WAVE, and enhancing the reliability of wavelength multiplexed transmission over the wavelengths of from 1530 to 1610 nm. A center core (3) is covered with a side core layer (4), the outer periphery thereof is covered with a clad layer (5), relationships among the specific refractive index differences DELTA 1, DELTA 2, DELTA 3 of the center core (3), side core layer (4) and clad layer (5) relative to pure quartz are set to be DELTA 1 > DELTA 3 > DELTA 2, DELTA 2/ DELTA 1 = Rd </= -0.45, and DELTA 1 ;>/= 1.2 %. The average dispersion slope up to the wavelengths 1530 to 1610 nm is set to be not larger than -0.6 ps/nm<2>/km, and a value obtained by dividing a dispersion value in the same wavelength band by the dispersion slope is set to be not larger than 160. The optical fiber with a length of not larger than about 1/9 of the TRUE WAVE is connected to the TRUE WAVE having an average dispersion slope in said wavelength band of about 0.07 to 0.01 ps/nm<2>/km and a dispersion value which is about 15 to 60 times as great as that of the dispersion slope, so that the dispersion in said wavelength band can be brought closer to zero dispersion.
