A spring assembly (14) for a foil thrust bearing set (10) includes a stiffener disc (22) and a plurality of spring segments (24). Each spring segment (24) has at least two anchoring tabs (46). When inserted into a slot (48) in the stiffener disc (22), the anchoring tabs (46) anchor the spring segment (24) to the stiffener disc.
