The system has a cylinder (5) containing compressed gas or a gas generator, which has a diameter approximately the same as that of the filling pipe (2). The gas cylinder aligns with the filling pipe in the axial direction. A filling gas source may be located at one or both ends. The filling gas is released by a heat and/or pressure generator activated by an ignitor unit and which acts upon the seal which under normal conditions keeps the gas cylinder closed. Independent claims are included for an airbag inflated by such a gas filling device, for a procedure for manufacturing the filling pipe, and for a machine to carry out the manufacturing.
