The invention concerns a base station controlling communications carried out in a digital and cellular radiocommunication network cell (17). The invention is characterised in that said base station comprises a set of at least two transmission and reception relays (13) geographically distributed in said cell, each of said relays capable of transmitting signals to mobile stations present in one said cell zone, and of receiving signals transmitted (12) by said mobile stations, in said zone; and a concentration centre (15), processing the signals (14) received by each of said relays (13), and delivering to each of said relays signals (14) to be transmitted. Moreover, the base station selectively assigns to each communication with a mobile station (11) a set of at least two said relays (23). The invention also concerns a corresponding method.
