<p>A safety system comprises a safety switch (D) or safety detector connected between a voltage source (Uv1) and a control circuit. An earthing resistance (R) is connected to the line between the detector and circuit and ground. The control circuit monitors the different signals generated when the detector/switch is operated and when there is a break in the connecting line between the circuit and the detector. This enables a safety signal to be generated if e.g. the connecting cable to the detector frays.</p>
