In a component assembly rig, a workpiece carrier (3) and the component (2) resting upon it are raised by a long-stroke jack (15) to the operating position. As the workpiece carrier (3) is raised at the same time, the jack is located between two elongated conveyer belt profiles, with the consequence that a large amount of space must be provided between the base and the transport system. The workpiece carrier consists of a base plate (8) resting on the conveyer belt. A column (9) extends vertically from the base plate. A detachable support (10) is secured to the column and holds the components. The jack is arranged to one side of the transport system (4) and secured to a frame, where a supporting console (29) extends from the jack (15) extending under the support (19).
