The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling an internal combustion engine in accordance with operating parameters such as load and number of rotations per minute. To control said internal combustion engine a corrected value of the intake air temperature is used which is obtained by the formula TANSK = T1 + (TWS-T1) * f, where TANSK is the corrected value of intake air temperature, T1 is the value (TANS), obtained by calculation or measurement, of intake air temperature at a distance from the internal combustion engine, TWS is the value of the mean temperature of the intake pipe, and f is a weighting factor between 0 and 1.
