摘要 A method of managing an internal combustion (IC) engine equipped with a revs detector (24) which determines the number (N) of revolutions of the crankshaft, and an intake manifold (1), in which a compressor (10), an air-mass meter (12), a pressure sensor (13) and a temperature sensor (14) are arranged, and including an exhaust-gas return valve (51) in an exhaust gas return device (5). A desired value (m EGR-SP) of a fed-back exhaust gas mass flow is determined dependent on at least one operating variable. An actual value (m EGR-AV) of the fed-back exhaust gas mass flow is calculated according to the equation m EGR = V/R*TL* delta pL - mFG + mCYL, in which R is the gas constant of the charge air, V is the volume of the intake manifold (1) down-stream of the compressor (10) and mCYL is a mass-flow into one cylinder (20) of the IC engine, which is determined from performance data depending on the charge pressure (pL) and the revs (N). Delta pL is the time derivative of the charge pressure (pL) which is determined by numerical differentiation of the measured charge pressure (pL). An actuating signal is determined for the exhaust-gas return valve (51) dependent on the desired value (m EGR-SP) and the actual value (m EGR-AV) of the fed-back exhaust gas mass flow.
