A method for fitting the various modules comprising a dashboard assembly into a vehicle on an assembly line has the modules e.g. defrost duct, dashboard module etc., offered into the mounting position on an assembly jig (14-18). A pointing system, e.g. a laser pointer (20) is mounted on the center of the jig and points to an aligning scale on the body. This enables the modules to be accurately positioned for the robotic systems to apply the fasteners. The laser pointer can also burn in the alignment marking on the scale, for the robotic assembly to follow.
