A structure-borne sound generator (4) is provided in the weapon. A structure-borne sound sensor (5) is arranged in the weapon and connected to an electronic evaluation circuit (7), which determines the frequency spectrum of the sound and compares it with values stored in a memory (16) representing a non-loaded or a loaded weapon barrel.
