The security procedure makes use of a smart card held by an authorised subscriber. The card is inserted into the terminal to allow it to operate. There are two modes, a normal mode when any authorised card need only be inserted into the terminal and a locked mode, when the terminal can be used only with a specific card. The smart card has locking data stored in a particular part of its memory. When operated in locked mode there is an initial stage of authentication of the user card carried out by the terminal. The terminal applies an algorithm to the data read from the card, and allows operation only if the result matches a values stored in the terminal. |
