The invention concerns an electro-optical module comprising a substrate (1) with a depression-free surface (2) on which a surface-mounting device (20) is disposed. The device (20) comprises as integral components an electro-optical component (3) and a lens (28) which are aligned directly with respect to one another. The surface (2) is also used as a reference plane for the assembly of a mounting (12) for an optical waveguide plug.
