The invention relates to a method of simulating transmission on an ATM asynchronous transfer transmission network, and a simulator implementing the method. To that end, the simulator includes interfaces (CA, CB) for connecting to this network; means (T) for generating a digital signal with format and throughput corresponding to the standards for transmission on the network, the signal consisting of cells identifiable by a header; error generation means (C1, C2, C3) and means (100) for processing this signal so as to introduce these errors thereto. Application to tests of ATM terminals.
