A deck portion of a trailer is pivotal relative to a main deck portion about a horizontal axis to allow an outer edge of the deck portion to be pivoted downwardly into contact with the ground for loading onto the main deck. Movement of the deck portion is actuated by a hinged strut which is inclined upwardly and outwardly from an inner end underneath the pivot axis to an outer end outwardly of the pivot axis. The hinge point of the strut is pushed inwardly and outwardly by a cylinder to effect movement of the strut to a straight position for raising the deck portion and to a folded position for lowering the deck portion. A stop member locates the strut in a slightly over center position in the raised position.
