An automatic tool changer for a machine tool which is provided with a first cam (CS) which cooperates with a first cam roller (21) fixed to the rear surface of a turret (38) to swing the turret (38), a second cam (CL) used to move the turret (38) vertically and relatively to a spindle head in the direction parallel to the axis of the main shaft of the machine tool, and links (6, 8, 14, 16) which have a second cam roller (22) cooperating with the second cam (CL), and which is adapted to move the turret (38) vertically and relatively to the main shaft of the machine tool when the turret (38) is swung in accordance with the cooperation of the first cam (CS) with the first cam roller (21), whereby a relative speed of the turret (38) with respect to the spindle head (34) is reduced, so that a shock occurring in the main shaft and turret (38) during a tool changing operation is lessened. <IMAGE> |
