A method of dyeing film of polyethylene terephthalate wherein the film (1) is im mersed in a dye bath (15) or solvent or dispersion dyes, dissolved or dispersed or both in a carrier consisting of glyce rol triacetate, the dye bath (15) being heated so the film (11) is raised to the glass transition temperature of the film (11), and the dye and carrier are absorbed into the film (11). The dye and carrier are removed from the surface of the film (11) by a washing bath (18) , and the film (11) is then heated (20) to remove the carrier absorbed in the film (11) without depreciating the dyestuff or the f ilm (11).
