PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device capable of executing interchangeable reproduction of a CD, CD-R and DVD varying in recording systems and a magneto- optic recording medium. SOLUTION: The semiconductor lasers 1a, 1b in a laser beam forming means 1 which is mounted with the semiconductor laser 1a forming a laser beam of a wavelength 635 nm and the semiconductor laser 1b forming a laser beam of a wavelength 780 nm are selectively driven and the voltage of a prescribed value is applied as a control signal on a second optical element 8 by using the laser beam forming means 1 described above, a first optical element 5 which selectively shields the light in the outer peripheral part in consequence of a difference in the wavelengths of the laser beams, diffracts the light in the inner peripheral part and makes the light incident on an objective lens 7 and the second optical element 8 which selectively diffracts the reflected light at a signal recording surface 11a (or 110a) according to a control signal and separates the reflected light to the laser beam in which a P polarized light component and an S polarized light component coexist, the laser beam of only the P polarized light component and the laser beam of only the S polarized light component. |
