An apparatus for separating particulate material includes supporting means for supporting a bed of the particulate material, means for inducing particle-particle interaction of particulate material in the bed whereby lower density particulate material migrates towards the top of the bed, and separation means for separating at least a portion of said lower density material from an upper portion of the bed.
