<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-repellent article with a large waterdrop contact angle, excellent in waterdrop rollability and highly resistant to scuffing and weather by applying a soln. of a chlorosilyl group-contg. compd. of which a chlorosilyl group is substituted for an alkyl group or hydroxyl group on the surface of a substrate and drying the soln. to form a water-repellent coating film. SOLUTION: A soln. of the chlorosilyl group-contg. compd. and fluoroalkyl group-contg. compd. in a hydrophilic solvent is applied on the surface of a glass substrate, etc. At this time, various chemical reactions take place between the hydroxyl group on the substrate surface and the compd. and solvent in the applied film. For example, when an alcoholic solvent is used as the solvent, a silicon alkoxide is formed. Hydrolysis and dehydration and condensation reactions are rapidly brought about when the soln. is applied and dried, and a siloxane bond is formed. As a result, a dense coating film is formed at a room temp. The silicon alkoxide or its hydroysate in the soln. should be the monomer or the polymer of <=19 monomers.</p> |
